What it does

The A1270 generates ultrasound directly inside the material using electromagnetic induction rather than a piezoelectric probe, so no coupling gel is needed. That makes it possible to gauge thickness through paint, corrosion and light scale, and to scan continuously across rough surfaces that would defeat a conventional contact probe.

Where it's used

  • Wall-thickness measurement on coated, corroded or rough steel pipe and plate.
  • Corrosion monitoring on tanks, vessels and structural steel without surface preparation.
  • Scanning applications where a couplant film would be impractical or messy.
  • Small-diameter pipe inspection using the compact EMAT transducer aperture.

Why inspectors choose it

No couplant requiredEliminates gel, prep and cleanup — faster inspection on site.
Reads through coatingsMeasures the base metal through paint or light corrosion up to ~1.5 mm.
Scanning capableContinuous B-scan profiling across a surface, not just spot readings.
Field-rugged design9-hour battery life and a rugged housing for all-day site work.
